Privacy and Security

Privacy

The Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) maintains this website http://www.tjjd.texas.gov as a public service. This policy describes the agency's
privacy practices regarding information collected from visitors to the site. It contains information about what information is collected and how that
information is used. Please note that all information collected or maintained by the TJJD is subject to the provisions of the Texas Public Information Act
(Chapter 552, Texas Government Code).

Cookies

The Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) does not use cookies or other technologies to track personal information from visitors to our website.

Server Logs/Log Analysis Tools

TJJD utilizes server logs and log analysis tools to create summary statistics about the use of the website. The summary statistics are used for purposes
such as assessing what information is of most interest to users, determining technical design specifications, and identifying system performance or
problem areas. The information we collect consists of:

  • The name of the domain from which the visitor accesses the Internet (for example, "aol.com," if the visitor is connecting from an America Online account).
  • The Internet Protocol (IP) number.
  • The date and time that the page was visited.

IP addresses are logged to track a user's session. This provides important utilization information related to the aspects of the agency website that users
are visiting. We do not link IP addresses to personally identifiable information. This means that a user’s session will be tracked, but the user will remain
anonymous. The generic information from server logs and statistical tracking software are used to improve the agency’s website. This information is not
reported or used in any manner that would reveal personally identifiable information, and will not be released to any outside parties unless legally required
to do so in connection with law enforcement investigations or other legal proceedings.

Email

Please be aware that if you send us an electronic mail message, the message may be subject to disclosure under the Texas Public Information Act or
applicable federal law. Personal, non-business email addresses from members of the public are not subject to disclosure by TJJD without affirmative
consent by the member. Personally identifiable information sent to TJJD in an email message will only be used by the agency to respond to the request.
TJJD may redirect the message to another government agency or person who is in a better position to answer the question.

Review of Personal Information

Individuals are entitled to request and review their personal information that the agency gathers on its forms (both print and electronic forms). They may
also have any errors in their information corrected. For assistance, contact us at 512-424-6109.

Web-based forms

TJJD may use Web-based forms for collecting survey results and registration for some agency-sponsored training events. Personally identifiable
information collected from these forms has a specified use (e.g., registration, survey response, etc.) and the information is used by TJJD only for that purpose.

Security

All web based applications use a secure server for conducting online transactions. All information that you transmit to us will be protected at a minimum
by 128-bit encryption technology, provided your browser is properly configured and your computer is operating properly. Security technology requires that
you have a reasonably current browser that is capable of supporting 128-bit encryption. Current browsers such as these will activate the appropriate
security features when you enter an online transaction through this site. In general, you can determine whether you are on a secure site by looking at the
symbol at the bottom of your browser screen. You can be sure you are using a secure server if the key is unbroken or the lock is locked.
