***PLEASE READ CAREFULLY*** This 2 day event will be a virtual broadcast using the GoTo Meeting Platform. Anyone wishing to attend must register using the link provided at this site and the links to join the GoTo Meeting broadcast will be provided prior to each date of broadcast. There will only be 2 links to join. A "Day 1" link and a "Day 2" link. Entering your email address in correctly when registering is the most important part of the registration process. This is a 2 day live virtual presentation series. The series will provide the participant with a set of presentations specific to juvenile law. The workshop goal is to provide information about best practices and appropriate service provision for juvenile justice practitioners and attorneys. If unable to join live, the presentations will be recorded and accessible on TJJD’s website. CLE credit* for attorneys may be claimed for 1 year. Training hours for TJJD certifications are also available. (*credit has been requested; approval pending)

Day 1 September 21, 2023 11am-1pm Legislative Updates: Riley Shaw (2 hours) An overview of legislative changes made by the 88th Legislative Session that impact the juvenile justice system.
Day 2 Nuts and Bolts of Juvenile Law, designed for those new to the field of juvenile justice or those wanting a refresher of juvenile law basics.
September 22, 2023 10am-10:30am Overview of the Juvenile Justice System: Jenna Malsbary (.5 hour) A brief overview of the Texas juvenile justice system, including terminology, jurisdiction, and other basics
September 22, 2023 10:30am-11:30am Custody, Statements, Detention Hearing: John Gauntt, Jr. (1 hour) An overview of statutes and laws on law enforcement interactions with juveniles, including taking into custody and taking a statement that will be admissible in court, as well as detention hearings, including timelines regarding the filing of a petition.

September 22, 2023 12pm-1pm Adjudication, Modification, Disposition: Terrance Windham (1 hour) An overview of the process after detention, including the adjudication hearing and modification hearing processes and both formal and informal disposition options.
September 22, 2023 1pm-1:30pm TJJD, Juvenile Records: Kaci Singer (.5 hour) A brief overview regarding TJJD commitments, including determinate sentences, and juvenile records laws.
September 22, 2023 1:30-2:30pm Chapter 55: Bill Cox (1 hour) An overview of the Chapter 55 process regarding fitness to proceed and lack of responsibility, including recent changes made to the law.
